2010-11 Northwestern Women's Golf Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. -- After qualifying for the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2007 last season, Northwestern looks to make a return trip in 2010-11, as head coach Emily Fletcher announces the Wildcats' schedule for the upcoming year. The 11-event slate features three home tournaments, including the Big Ten Championships on April 22-24, 2011, at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe.

"We are really excited about our tournament schedule for the upcoming year," said Fletcher. "We have been very diligent in our efforts to improve our strength of schedule and this directly reflects those efforts. Our girls will consistently be playing against the top ranked programs in the country."

Northwestern opens up the year in Ann Arbor, Mich., competing in the Wolverine Invitational, before returning to compete in the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Wildcats will then mark a first in the program's history - playing in home tournaments in back-to-back weeks. Northwestern hosts the third annual Windy City Collegiate Classic at Northmoor Country Club in Highland Park on Oct. 4 and 5, followed by the Lady Northern at the Lake Shore Country Club on Oct. 11 and 12. The Lady Northern is hosted each year by the school which will serve as the host institution for the Big Ten Championships.

"One noticeable change to our schedule has to be that Northwestern will be hosting three events in the coming year," said Fletcher. "Some schools go an entire year without hosting an event and we are tackling three! In just two years, the Windy City Classic has quickly become recognized as one of the best tournaments in the country and now for the first time in the history of our women's golf program, we will be hosting both the Lady Northern the Big Ten Conference Championships. We are thrilled to showcase Northwestern and these amazing country clubs."

The Wildcats then close out the fall portion of the schedule in Wilmington, N.C. at the Landfall Tradition. Return trips to the Lady Puerto Rico and Central District Invitational in February will allow Northwestern to not only escape the cold and ice of a Chicago winter, but also more competition against some of the nation's top teams.

The Bryan National Collegiate, Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and Lady Buckeye will serve as Northwestern's final three tune-ups before returning home to host the 2011 Big Ten Championships at the end of April. It marks the first time in program history that the Wildcats will host the Big Tens, and Fletcher is already looking forward to being the "home team" for the conference championship.

"We have had our sights on hosting the Big Ten Championships since Pat Goss took over as Director of Golf and Beth (Miller) and I were hired back in 2008. We are determined to make this the most memorable Conference Championship ever. With a venue like Lake Shore Country Club, we are already setting the tone for an outstanding event."

The Wildcats then have their sights set on not just qualifying again for the NCAA Regionals, but also advancing to the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas, in May. Northwestern returns its entire roster from last season, including second team All-Big Ten selection Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows). Seniors Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central), Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) and Innapha Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy) will also be looking to make their marks in their final seasons in Evanston.
