Heather Van Hoegarden Named Director of Basketball Operations

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Heather Van Hoegarden has been named director of basketball operations, head coach Joe McKeown announced today (June 9, 2010). Van Hoegarden, previously the program's administrative assistant, will assume operations and external affairs responsibilities effective immediately. She replaces Billy Fennelly, who was named director of player development for Iowa State women's basketball.
"Having been with the program for two years as an administrative do-it-all assistant, Heather is fully invested in Wildcat women's basketball," McKeown said. "She just completed her master's degree in athletic administration here at Northwestern, and she will be a great liaison to the Chicagoland area as we look to spread the word about Northwestern women's basketball. I truly believe this will open up a very successful career in college athletics for her."
Van Hoegarden, a Burr Ridge native, completed her undergraduate work in accounting at the University of Notre Dame before becoming a CPA at Deloitte in downtown Chicago. She assumed administrative assistant duties for Wildcat women's basketball shortly after enrolling in Northwestern's master's in sports administration program in 2008.
In addition to the operations aspect of her job, Van Hoegarden's duties in her new capacity will also include marketing, fundraising and external affairs with the program.
"I am excited to continue my career at Northwestern with Coach McKeown and the rest of the staff," Van Hoegarden said. "I feel extremely fortunate to continue to work at a world-class university with an outstanding athletic department and amazing people. I believe this program is on the rise and I look forward to contributing to the future success of women's basketball, whether it's engaging former players with the program or managing activities for the current team."
