NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

Spring Sports Weekly Release #9 
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat juniors Chris Lashmet (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) of the baseball team and Maria Mosolova (Moscow, Russia/No. 204) of the women's tennis team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Lashmet enjoyed a monster week at the plate during NU's three-game set at Michigan this weekend. On Friday, Lashmet socked a pair of home runs--both of which tied the game at the time--and scored three runs. Lashmet then got on base and scored three times in a 10-8 NU win Saturday before capping his series with a second-inning grand slam on Sunday. He now has five homers and is batting .407 against Big Ten opponents this year.
Mosolova led Northwestern to a pair of sweeps in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships this weekend, coasting to two doubles wins and one singles victory. On Friday, Mosolova defeated All-MAC selection Anastasia Dracheva 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to clinch NU's 4-0 sweep of Miami (Ohio). Mosolova is 20-6 in dual singles matches this season and has won six in row entering the NCAA Championships round of 16.
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is junior Carolyn Edwards (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) of the women's soccer team. Edwards spent last Friday at Edison Elementary School where she and many other female student-athletes spoke to the students about the importance of physical activity and the benefits of participating in athletics. They also coached the girls on the importance of doing well in school and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
