EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat sophomore Paul Snieder (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) of the baseball team and senior Katrina Dowd (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) of the women's lacrosse team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.

Snieder came up huge for NU in its comeback win against Valparaiso Tuesday, going 3-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and a grand slam that served as the knockout blow in a 10-8 victory. Snieder also struck out four Crusaders in recording his 10th save of the year. In an 11-4 win over Indiana Saturday, Snieder stayed hot by clubbing his fourth home run in as many games to up his season home run total to six.

Dowd was named the most valuable player of the American Lacrosse Conference Championship after scoring nine goals in two games as NU won the event for the sixth straight season. Dowd racked up nine points and finished with a game-high five draw controls in the semifinals against Penn State before adding a hat trick in the title game against Vanderbilt. She leads the team in both goals (66) and points (94).

This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is freshman Kaley Stroup (Madison, Wis./La Follette) of the cross country team. Stroup has been a weekly volunteer at Orrington Elementary School. Kaley and other members of the cross country team assist with the students' physical education classes and work with the children individually and in groups to help reinforce skills that they are learning in the classroom.
