NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat senior Danielle Spencer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) of the women's lacrosse team and freshman Sidarth Balaji (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) of the men's tennis team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Spencer scored a combined 10 points in Northwestern's wins this week over Notre Dame and Duke, raising her career total to 201 to move into 10th place in program history. At Duke on Saturday, Spencer showed her versatility by scoring two goals and winning 10 draw controls to tie Kristen Kjellman's NU single-game record. Spencer is tied for the team lead this season with 30 goals and second with 58 points.
Balaji won back-to-back singles matches for the Wildcats against Michigan State and Michigan this weekend, upping his team-leading dual win total to 10 for the season. Balaji defeated MSU's Denis Bogotov, 6-2, 6-3, and Michigan's Mike Srocynski, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, with both wins coming at the No. 3 position. He has now won six of his last seven matches for NU.
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is junior Brooke Matthews (Baltimore, Md./Friends School) of the women's lacrosse team. Matthews and other members of the women's lacrosse team have been volunteering their time to teach the game of lacrosse to members of the Girls in the Game initiative. In the second year of this collaboration, they have set up multiple clinic dates and have arranged for the participants to play an exhibition game at halftime of one of their upcoming home games.
