EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Nicole Pauly (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week after helping Northwestern to a trio of conference victories and reaching a historic home run milestone.
Pauly slugged 1.417 in four games last week with two doubles and three home runs, including the 50th of her career to make her the third Wildcat in program history to reach that plateau. The others to hit 50 are former Big Ten Players of the Year Garland Cooper (55) and Tammy Williams (57).
Pauly began the week by scoring twice and smashing an RBI double in the first game of a doubleheader at Michigan State. She made history in game two with two home runs, the 49th and 50th of her career. She also drove in four runs in that game to match her career single-game best. After knocking in a run during a midweek nonconference game, Pauly came back with a double and career home run No. 51 during a rain-shortened victory at Indiana.
Northwestern returns to action in a 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, home game against Illinois-Chicago.
