EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat sophomore Paul Snieder (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) of the baseball team and junior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) of the women's golf team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Snieder helped NU to three wins last week both at the plate and on the mound. He posted three multi-hit games in the 'Cats' four contests, including going 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored Friday against Minnesota. On the hill, Snieder made three appearances and earned saves in each of Northwestern's three victories. In Sunday's series-clinching 8-3 win, he worked the final two innings and recorded four strikeouts.
Lindenschmidt found herself atop the leaderboard after one round at the Lady Buckeye hosted by Ohio State this weekend and eventually finished in third place, helping the 'Cats place third in the 12-team field. Lindenschmidt shot a 15-over 231 for the 54-hole tournament to secure the highest individual finish of her Wildcat career.
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is senior Britta Helwig (Chicago, Ill./Luther North) of the cross country team. Helwig been visiting Orrington Elementary on a weekly basis to assist with their physical education courses. She's been a consistent volunteer at the school and the PE teacher routinely acknowledges how great it has been to have Britta at their school and the positive influence she has had on the students.
