EVANSTON, Ill. — The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association recently announced its list of Division I teams that qualified for the USTFCCA All-Academic Team award. Northwestern was among those recognized for its academic excellence, checking in with a 3.45 overall team GPA.
In order for a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. NU placed 14th/22 at its NCAA Midwest Regional Championship meet this season. Each team must also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.
Northwestern's 3.45 team GPA across its 22 members ranked fifth among Big Ten teams that qualified for the recognition. NU, which placed higher at its NCAA Regional meet than any other cross country-only program in the nation in 2009, saw nine runners earn Academic All-Big Ten honors this year.
