DELAND, Fla. - Five different Northwestern players had multi-hit games, but host Stetson rallied for six runs over its final three at-bats to top the Wildcats by a score of 10-5 Friday evening in the second game of a four-game series between the teams.
Stetson (11-13) jumped out to a 4-0 lead on NU, scoring two times in the third and twice more in the fourth against Wildcat starter Francis Brooke.
However, Northwestern (5-16) would charge back. The Wildcats put up a four-spot in the top of the fifth to tie things up. After three straight singles to start the frame loaded the bases, Chris Kontos came through with a two-run double to get NU within 4-2. A run-scoring groundout by Geoff Rowan made it a one-run game before an error brought home another run to get Northwestern back to even.
The Wildcats kept the momentum going in the sixth as they took a 5-4 lead on another run-scoring hit by Kontos that brought home Chris Lashmet with the lead run.
But the Hatters had the answer as they pushed across four runs in the sixth, two more in the seventh and one final tally in the eighth.
Both teams finished with 14 hits in the contest. Lashmet led the way with three hits and two runs, while Kontos, Rowan, Arby Fields and Paul Snieder added two apiece.
The teams continue their series Saturday at 1 p.m. Central time.
