WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - One day after pounding out 16 hits against Cornell, the Northwestern baseball team was held in check by a trio of Dartmouth pitchers in falling 5-1 to the Big Green Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore right-hander Cole Sulser limited NU (5-14) to six hits over his seven innings of work in picking up the win.

Senior southpaw David Jensen got the nod on the mound for the Wildcats and surrendered three runs in the second inning as Zack Bellenger had a two-run double and David Turnbull added an RBI single.

Northwestern had a chance for a big inning in the fourth, but it was forced to settle for only one run. With one away, Chad Noble doubled and Paul Snieder reached on an error. A walk to Chris Lashmet loaded the bases before Chris Kontos plated Noble with a single to make it 3-1. However, Sulser was able to work out of further trouble by recording a strikeout and a fielder's choice groundout.

The missed opportunity would prove to be costly for the Wildcats as they would fail to tally the rest of the way. Dartmouth (5-4) got the one run back in its half of the fourth on a run-scoring single by Jake Carlson and tacked on one final score in the fifth on a groundout by Jeff Onstott that plated a run.

The four-run cushion proved to be too much for the Wildcats to overcome. NU got consecutive singles to open the sixth and a one-out double by Snieder in the eighth but was unable to convert on either occasion.

Max Langford and Ryan Smith each worked an inning of scoreless relief to secure the win for the Big Green.

Jensen (0-2) took the loss despite striking out six in six innings of work. He surrendered nine hits and five runs (four earned) while walking three. Snieder had two hits for the Wildcats to raise his team-leading batting average to .406.

Following a day off, Northwestern returns to action at 5 p.m. Central time Thursday as it opens a four-game series at Stetson.
