PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Junior Amy Jaeschke was tabbed a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the media and a second-team honoree by the coaches, while Kendall Hackney earned a slot on the All-Freshman team, the conference office announced today. The accolades come on the heels of the Wildcats' best season in 13 years, having won 16 games overall and seven in conference action. Jaeschke is the first Wildcat in 10 years to be named a first-team all-league selection.

"I'm really proud of Amy," Head Coach Joe McKeown said. "To be named First-Team All-Big Ten, is a great honor, especially with the talent in the league right now. I know she is very humble and more concerned about the team, but the honor is a by-product of the hard work she put in this past off-season and our team having a great year. Kendall has embraced playing in the Big Ten and doesn't always play as a freshman. She has been an integral part of our success this season and we're really excited about her next three years."

Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) has been an All-Big Ten honoree in each of her three seasons as a Wildcat, earning Honorable Mention and All-Freshman team accolades her first season, and second-team laurels as a sophomore. Hackney (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame), meanwhile, becomes the third Wildcat in history to be named to the All-Freshman team, following Jaeschke (2007) and Sarah Kwasinski (2002).

Jaeschke has led the Wildcats all season in scoring, averaging 17.1 ppg while leading the way on the glass, pulling down 7.1 rpg. She has been atop NU's scoring column 16 times and has been the leading rebounder on 17 occasions, while also recording five double-double efforts in NU's 29 games. After setting a single-season Wildcat-best with 96 rejections last year, Jaeschke is currently second in the conference in blocks with 92. She has been in the nation's top 10 in blocked shots all season, currently ranking eighth in the country with 3.2 per game.

Jaeschke has had a milestone season personally, scoring the 1,000th point of her career, grabbing her 500th rebound, while also becoming Northwestern's all-time leader in blocked shots. With nine rejections against SIU-E on Nov. 20, Jaeschke tied her career-high and also matched her own single-game Wildcat record. The junior is currently ninth on Northwestern's single-season field goals made list (198) and has a chance to crack the 'Cats' top 10 single-season scoring slate.

Hackney is second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.2 ppg overall and 10.0 ppg in league contests. The freshman, who also is second in rebounding with 5.2 rpg, leads the Wildcats from beyond the arc, shooting down 41.2 percent of her three-point looks. With that percentage, Hackney would come in seventh in NU's single-season three point field goal percentage list. She has scored in double figures in seven of the last nine contests and has tallied double digits in 12 games this year.

The Cincinnati, Ohio, native keyed several Wildcat victories this season, recording a career-best 20 points against Loyola (Chicago) on Dec. 22 and pulling down a personal-high eight rebounds against Michigan State (2/14/10) and Indiana (2/18/10). She also played an integral role in NU's 68-62 victory at Wisconsin, scoring 14 second-half points to drive the 'Cats' come-from-behind triumph.

Both Jaeschke and Hackney were honored by the league office earlier this season, claiming two Big Ten Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors, respectively. In total, the Wildcats claimed five Big Ten weekly laurels this season, which is the most since the awards were instituted.

The Big Ten also announced Beth Marshall (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) as Northwestern's Sportsmanship honoree.

The Wildcats take on Michigan in the first game of the Big Ten Tournament Thursday in Indianapolis. Tip is set for 11 a.m. CT from Conseco Fieldhouse and will be carried live on the Big Ten Network.
