Wildcat runners also joined forces to win the distance medley relay, composed of 1,200, 400, 800 and 1,600-meter legs in that sequential order. NU finished the 4,000-meter race in a time of 12:39.

NU is coming off a season in which it was the lone cross country-only program in the country to place in the top 15 of its NCAA Regional Championships meet. For the season, Northwestern's average 5K time (18:56) was 40 seconds faster than that of any other cross country-only program nationally while its 6K average (22:45) was more than a full minute better than the second-best 6K team average. Out of 344 Division I women's cross country teams, there are 21 cross country-only programs in the country--all others sponsor indoor and/or outdoor track and field teams.
