Wildcats Drop Finale of Bojangles Baseball Classic

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Another early deficit led to a defeat for Northwestern as it dropped its finale of the Bojangles Baseball Classic to George Mason 15-1 Sunday afternoon.
NU loaded the bases in the top of the first but was unable to cash in. Michael Jahns got the start on the hill for the Wildcats, but surrendered five runs in the first inning, including a grand slam by designated hitter Shane Davis.
Northwestern (0-4) got one run back in its half of the second as Chris Kontos reached on a one-out error, advanced to third on a single by Zach Morton and scored on a fielder's choice by Arby Fields.
The Patriots got one run in its half of the third and two more in the fourth before breaking the game open with seven runs in the fifth.
Paul Snieder drew three walks at the plate and tossed three scoreless innings on the mound with two strikeouts. Trevor Stevens contributed two hits for NU.
Northwestern returns to action next Friday through Sunday as it participates in the Big Ten/Big East Challenge in St. Petersburg, Fla.
