NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat seniors David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) of the men's golf team and Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) of the women's tennis team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week following their teams' championship-winning performances over the weekend.
Lipsky was one of several Wildcats who enjoyed stellar weeks in helping NU win the Big Ten Match Play Championship this weekend in Florida. Lipsky won all four of his matches, including an incredible come-from-behind victory to clinch NU's 3.5-2.5 win over Iowa in the semifinals. Lipsky trailed by three holes with eight holes left to play before playing near-flawless golf to win the match 1-up.
Lui was an absolute rock for the 'Cats during their remarkable run to a repeat national title at the ITA National Indoor Team Championship. Lui was the only Wildcat to complete and win all four of her singles matches, helping NU win consecutive 4-3 decisions in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. Lui also ended a brutal stretch of doubles matches with a crucial 8-6 upset of North Carolina's sixth-ranked tandem to help NU win the doubles point in the title match.
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is senior Jeremy Nash (Chicago, Ill./Marist) of the men's basketball team. Nash and other members of the men's basketball team have been serving as pen pals to students in a fourth grade class at Hubbard Woods Elementary School taught by David Wartik, who serves as a public addess announcer during NU basketball games. After exchanging letters throughout the year, the players later meet their pen pals during a spring luncheon.
