EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat senior Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) of the women's basketball team and freshman Kaleb Friedley (Kearney, Mo./Park Hill) of the wrestling team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Jaeschke earned her second Big Ten Player of the Week honor this season after posting career highs of 37 points and 17 rebounds in Northwestern's 92-84 win over Central Michigan on Saturday. The senior also tallied six blocks and four assists in the Wildcats' win, shooting 60 percent (15-of-25) from the floor. She followed that up Monday with another strong outing at DePaul, scoring 16 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
Friedley continued his exceptional start to his Northwestern career on Sunday by pinning his fifth consecutive opponent, needing only 38 seconds for the fall against Eastern Michigan's Mike LeHolm. The only true freshman in NU's starting lineup, Friedley picked up his team-leading 13th victory of the season -- a number that includes seven pins -- while helping the Wildcats improve to 7-0, their best start since 2006.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is junior Jill Dunn (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) of the women's soccer team. Jill and other members of the women's soccer program attended a holiday party at the Family Focus Center in Evanston, spending time interacting with the children to raise spirits during the holiday season.
