NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat senior Sabel Moffett (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) of the volleyball team and freshman Kaleb Friedley (Kearney, Mo./Park Hill) of the wrestling team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Moffett compiled 39 kills in two matches for the Wildcats this weekend, including a career-best 27 against Wisconsin on Saturday. She hit .531 for the weekend, including 12 kills with 0 errors and a .545 hitting percentage in leading the 24th-ranked Wildcats to a 3-0 upset of sixth-ranked Illinois. Her strong weekend moved her into fifth all-time in program history with 469 career blocks.
Thrust into Northwestern's starting lineup as a true freshman, Friedley excelled in his Wildcat debut against Stanford and Menlo College on Sunday. Friedley took to the mat at 141 pounds with only four matches remaining and NU trailing 13-6 in the team score. Friedley went right to work in his first collegiate match, getting a quick '2' and back points on Stanford's Jordan Gray and never looking back on his way to an 11-0 major decision. That proved to be the first of three straight major decision wins as NU rallied for 18-16 dual victory. Later in the day, Friedley recorded a pin in only 52 seconds against Menlo College's Christian Martinez as NU rolled to a 43-3 win over the Oaks.
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is junior Maria Tedeschi (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) of the women's lacrosse team. Tedeschi recently was a volunteer teacher in physical education classes at Orrington Elementary School, leading the students through various drills and teaching them about the importance of daily physical activity.
