First/Second Round Results
TEMPE, Ariz. -- On the second day of play at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, freshman Belinda Niu advanced to the finals of the 32-player singles draw with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Michigan's Whitney Taney.
Niu marched through the semifinal round with a default victory over Arizona State's Jacqueline Cako. Niu will face another Sun Devil at 11:30 a.m. CT Sunday when she meets Kelcy McKenna in the tournament final.
In other singles play, Northwestern saw its other representative in the quarterfinal round come up short as Brittany Wowchuk lost to Michigan's Brooke Bolender (6-1, 6-3).
