NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat seniors Beth Marshall (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) of the women's basketball team and Michael Thompson (Chicago, Ill./Lincoln Park) of the men's basketball team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Marshall was named to the all-tournament team at the St. Mary's Tournament following Northwestern's back-to-back victories over St. Mary's and BYU. Against the Gaels, Marshall scored 10 points and recorded three steals before upping the ante in a one-point win over the Cougars on Saturday, scoring 16 points thanks in part to three made 3-pointers. Marshall also notched four rebounds and three assists in 38 minutes of action vs. BYU.
Thompson scored 18 points on an efficient 8-for-10 shooting night and handed out three assists as the Wildcats handed Creighton its second loss of the year Sunday night, winning by a score of 65-52. With the Blue Jays trying to stage a late-game rally, Thompson connected on 3-pointers on consecutive possessions before icing the victory with an alley-oop to John Shurna out of a timeout. Thompson finished the evening just one assist shy of becoming the second Wildcat ever to reach the 400 career assist milestone.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is junior Grace Weitz (Golden Valley, Minn./The Breck School) of the women's soccer team. Grace visited the RICE Center in Evanston to spend time with the kids, playing soccer and other sports with them and continuing her ongoing mentorship at the center.
