Noting Northwestern
Wildcats Among Conference, National Conversation and Both Polls
Entering the season, Northwestern was on the lips of several Big Ten media members, including the Big Ten Network's Stephanie White. White picked the Wildcats as a team to watch in the League and on Sunday, ESPN's Graham Hays followed suit. After NU's 71-62 win over national power LSU, Hays noted Northwestern's triumph as one of the "Four Things That Caught My Eye" in the opening weekend on his blog. Others also saw an impressive performance, and the Wildcats enter week two receiving votes in both the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Polls and the Associated Press Poll. Northwestern also received positive publicity with the signing of highly-touted prospect Morgan Jones (see note below for more information).

Wildcats Ink Jones To Round Out 2015 Class
Head coach Joe McKeown announced today the signing of Morgan Jones to the National Letter of Intent. Jones (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lake Mary) becomes the third member of this year's class, joining Wisconsin native Alex Cohen (Bayside, Wis./Nicolet) and Canadian Karly Roser (Hamilton, Ontairo, Canada/Saint Mary's).
Jones, an all-around athlete who also stars in volleyball, comes to NU as the ninth-ranked player in the nation and the third at her position by Hoopgurlz.com. The multi-sport team captain has been a first-team all-conference honoree in both volleyball and basketball. On the hardwood, she is a three-time selection and an All-State performer last season who is averaging 18.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg and four assists per outing during her high school career. She is also a three-year member of the Naval ROTC as well as a peer mentor who is active in the community, participating in Relay for Life and volunteering at children's hospitals in the Altamonte Springs area.

Two of Nation's Best Return For the 'Cats
Senior Beth Marshall and Amy Jaeschke were among the nation's best in their respective crafts last season and are looking to do more of the same this year. Marshall finished 6th in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.43) while Jaeschke finished 6th in blocked shots (3.2 per outing). We've seen more of the same in the first three games, as Marshall has a team-high 13 dishes and Jaeschke already has seven blocks.

Orban Makes A Statement
Junior Brittany Orban contributed in a big way last weekend, spearheading Northwestern's rebounding effort against LSU Sunday. The Canton, Ohio, native pulled down a career-best 17 rebounds while contributing 18 points, three assists and a steal. Against Western Kentucky Thursday evening, Orban was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free-throw line, contributing a team-high 20 points and six rebounds.

Next Up...
Northwestern heads to California for the Thanksgiving holiday, participating in the Saint Mary's Hilton Tournament in Moraga. The Wildcats face Saint Mary's and BYU on Friday, Nov. 26 and Saturday, Nov. 27, respectively. Complete coverage will be available at http://www.smcgaels.com and on Twitter through @NU_SportsLIVE .
