EVANSTON, Ill. -- Head coach Joe McKeown announced today the signing of Morgan Jones to the National Letter of Intent. Jones (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lake Mary) becomes the third member of this year's class, joining Wisconsin native Alex Cohen (Bayside, Wis./Nicolet) and Canadian Karly Roser (Hamilton, Ontairo, Canada/Saint Mary's).
"I think it's a great step for Northwestern basketball to sign one of the premier players in the country," head coach McKeown said. "Signing a player of Morgan's caliber shows the progress we are making in being able to recruit nation wide. She is an outstanding student-athlete who could have gone anywhere in the country and we are very fortunate she chose Northwestern. She is an extremely versatile player who has the Magic Johnson-like ability to play anywhere on the court. She also is an outstanding young lady."
Jones, an all-around athlete who also stars in volleyball, comes to NU as the ninth-ranked player in the nation and the third at her position by Hoopgurlz.com. The multi-sport team captain has been a first-team all-conference honoree in both volleyball and basketball. On the hardwood, she is a three-time selection and an All-State performer last season who is averaging 18.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg and four assists per outing during her high school career. She is also a three-year member of the Naval ROTC as well as a peer mentor who is active in the community, participating in Relay for Life and volunteering at children's hospitals in the Altamonte Springs area.
