EVANSTON, Ill. -- Head coach Joe McKeown announced today (Thursday) the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent. This year's class includes Wisconsin native Alex Cohen (Bayside, Wis./Nicolet) and Canadian Karly Roser (Hamilton, Ontairo, Canada/Saint Mary's).

A Bayside, Wis., native, Cohen was selected as a Sporting News All-American this year and is currently ranked seventh nationally at her position by Hoopgurlz.com. The 6-5 center led the Midwest Elite to the 2009 17U national championship and her high school squad, Nicolet, won back-to-back conference championships the past two seasons.

"We are excited about Alex choosing Northwestern," McKeown said. "She is one of the top student-athletes in the country and was highly recruited. I feel that her size, skill and versatility will help us as we continue to build our program. I was also impressed with her character and humility. She is the kind of person we want here at Northwestern."

Roser, a native of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, comes to the Wildcat family following extensive international experiences, having played on the Canadian National Team which competed in France this past summer. Like Cohen, the 5-10 guard has championship high school experience, leading her team to the Catholic Sr. Girls' Basketball Title last year.

"We feel really fortunate that Karly chose Northwestern," McKeown said. "She is one of the top point guards in North America and has tremendous international experience. She also is an outstanding student and I feel she's a perfect fit for NU. Playing on the Canadian National team gave her an opportunity to play against some of the best players in the world and she more than held her own. We are really excited about her potential leadership skills as a point guard and as a student."
