EVANSTON, Ill. -- Center Amy Jaeschke has been selected as a member of the Naismith preseason watch list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced yesterday (Nov. 9). It is the second time in as many years that the Wilmette, Ill., native has been honored by the organization.
The watch list, composed of 50 young women, was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2010-11 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T will be awarded on April 4, 2011 at the NCAA Women's Final Four in Indianapolis. The honor gives the senior a trio of preseason awards, which also includes a preseason All-Big Ten nod and a Lowe's Senior Class Award Candidate honor. Jaeschke, an All-America candidate this year, has been an All-Big Ten selection the last three years, including a first-team nod last season, NU's first First-Team member since 1999. In 2009-10, she led the Wildcats to their first postseason appearance in 16 years, guiding NU to the WNIT's round of 16.
Already the Wildcats' career blocks leader, Jaeschke will look to crack the NCAA records book this season, needing just 85 blocks to rank in the top 25 all-time in Division I. She finished sixth in the nation in blocks last year with 3.21 per outing. The communication studies major has been NU's leading scorer and rebounder for the past three seasons, including averaging 16.9 ppg and 7.2 rpg last year, which ranked fourth and fifth in the conference, respectively.
Jaeschke and the Wildcats open the 2010-11 season at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12 against Dartmouth. Ticket packages for this season are on sale now. To order, call 888-GO-PURPLE.
