EVANSTON, Ill. -- With five weeks remaining before Northwestern tips off the 2010-11 season against Dartmouth on Nov. 12, NU took to the courts at Welsh-Ryan Arena for the first time Thursday in its opening practice. Head coach Joe McKeown, entering his third season with the 'Cats, had his first chance to watch his talented newcomers begin to blend with a group of four returning starters.
Northwestern wasted no time going at it, working on team rebounding and defensive drills in what was a high-energy afternoon practice session. McKeown and his staff -- associate head coach Ali Jaques and assistant coaches Tennille Adams and Caroline McCombs -- pushed NU to make of the most of their first opportunity together on the court.
Fans are invited to come to SPAC on Friday, Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. to check out the inaugural Friday Night Hoops event on campus featuring both the men's and women's basketball teams.
Northwestern's opener against the Big Green is the first of 16 home dates on the 2010-11 schedule.
