NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat freshman Stephanie Holthus (Burlington, Ill./Central) of the volleyball team and junior Drew Kotler (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) of the men's soccer team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Holthus the best weekend of her young Wildcat career, recording a pair of double-doubles. She had 11 kills, 10 digs and four blocks in a victory over Wisconsin in Madison, then set career-highs with 19 kills and 20 digs against seventh-ranked Illinois Saturday night. She is the only true freshman that has started every set for the 'Cats in 2010 and ranks third on the team with 151 kills.
Kotler helped the Wildcats earn a pair of results last week, allowing just one goal in over 200 minutes of action. He came up huge in Northwestern's 1-1 tie against Notre Dame at Toyota Park on Wednesday, posting a career-high 11 saves while facing 30 total shots. Kotler followed up the performance by making three saves in a 1-0 win over Missouri State Sunday to earn his third shutout of the season. The first-year starter currently leads the Big Ten in both goals-against average (0.53) and save percentage (.882).
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is junior Maria Tedeschi (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) of the women's lacrosse team. Tedeschi and teammate Alex Frank recently assisted the Evanston City Office in its efforts to promote the "Paint the Town Purple" celebration. Maria and Alex took time going door-to-door to different businesses to greet store-owners, distribute posters and encourage participation in the pep rally and the football game vs. Central Michigan.
