EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat senior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) of the men's golf team and sophomore Sarah Marcincin (Bethlehem, Pa./Blair Academy) of the field hockey team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Lipsky made a final-round charge worthy of golf's greats Sunday at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate at Forest Oaks Country Club, playing his final four holes in 5-under par to tie for medalist honors at 14-under 202, a total which ties Luke Donald's school record 54-hole mark set in 2001. Lipsky recorded a birdie, birdie, birdie and eagle on the last four holes to finish with a 66 for the round, besting his previous career-best of 67.
Marcincin set a career high Sunday when she recorded four assists in Northwestern's 4-2 victory over Iowa in Iowa City. Marcincin initiated three NU penalty corners that resulted in goals for Chelsea Armstrong and also put a hit on cage that was deflected in for Armstrong's fourth goal of the day. The senior and three-year starter, who has a career-high nine assists this season, also spearheads an NU defense that has allowed more than two goals in a game only once since Sept. 3.
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is senior Corbin Bryant (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) of the football team. Bryant and fellow student-athletes Quentin Davie, Stacy Uchida and Leigh Jakes led a tour of 180 students, teachers and parents from the Knowledge is Power Program (KPP). Upon their arrival to Welsh Ryan Arena, Corbin spoke to the group encouraging the kids to do well in school and make smart choices. The student-athletes then led the group on a tour of the athletic facilities.
