EVANSTON, Ill. -- On the heels of her stellar four-goal performance against Iowa Sunday, Chelsea Armstrong has been named the Big Ten Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time in 2010.
Armstrong struck twice in each half -- with three of her tallies coming directly off penalty corner opportunities -- as the Wildcats improved to 3-1 in Big Ten action and stayed alive in their quest for a league championship entering the final weekend of the regular season.
Armstrong was the beneficiary of finely tuned penalty corner operation, as Sarah Marcincin (four assists) and Stacy Uchida (three assists) each executed their roles to perfection against the Hawkeyes.
With her second four-goal effort of the season, Armstrong maintained her position atop the Big Ten scoring leaders and continued her climb of NU's lists of all-time leading scorers. She raised her Big Ten-leading season totals to 23 goals and 57 points, both of which are the No. 2 all-time single-season performances at Northwestern. For her career (37 games), Armstrong is now fifth in school history in both categories (45 goals, 113 points).
Northwestern, which boasts an 11-6 overall mark to go along with its 3-1 conference record, closes its regular season this weekend at home against a pair of top-20 opponents. NU hosts Penn State at 3 p.m. Friday before facing Michigan State Sunday in a game that will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
