Northwestern, Illinois Share Top Honors at Illini Open

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Northwestern freshman Nicole Oliver paced all NU runners and took fourth place overall with a 5K time of 18:15 as the Wildcats finished in a tie for first place at the Illini Open Friday in Champaign. Oliver was followed by junior Abby Tracy and sophomore Lauren Neuschel in fifth and sixth overall, respectively.

Tracy recorded a time of 18:22 with Neuschel following her lead in 18:27.

Northwestern and host Illinois each compiled 35 points in the team standings. The Wildcats received boosts from sophomore Allegra Mayer and junior Rachel Edwards as the two helped NU stay level with an Illini team that took second, third, seventh and eighth at the meet.

Northern Kentucky placed a distant third with 102 team points.

Northwestern will use the coming week to fine tune for its appearance at the Big Ten Championships hosted by Wisconsin on Sunday, Oct. 31.
