EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern is one of eight schools competing at the Illini Open Friday afternoon in Champaign, contributing to the largest field (86 runners) in the three-year history of the event. Eighteen Wildcats are entered in the event where a year ago Ashley Greenwell led all NU finishers as the 'Cats took third overall.
Start time for the 5K race is set for 4 p.m. at the University of Illinois Arboretum. Joining NU and Illinois in the field will be: Bradley, Illinois State, Illinois Wesleyan, Indianapolis, Lewis and Northern Kentucky.
Complete meet results will be available on NUsports.com following the conclusion of the race.
Northwestern's top seven runners will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 31, when the Wildcats travel to Wisconsin for the 2010 Big Ten Championships. Northwestern had a chance to become familiar with the site of this year's championship meet having run to a first-place finish at the Badger Cross Country Classic in the 2010 season-opener.
