EVANSTON, Ill. -- Head coach Claire Pollard's Northwestern squad is in final preparations for the 2010 ITA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Michigan, taking place Friday-Tuesday, Oct. 22-26. Last year, Maria Mosolova managed to keep the singles title in Evanston for the ninth time under Pollard's direction.

In doubles action, all three of Northwestern's pairings earned first-round byes into the second round. Sophomore Kate Turvy and freshman Belinda Niu join junior Elena Chernyakova and sophomore Brittany Wowchuk in the second round on the top half of the draw. In the lower half, sophomore Linda Abu Mushrefova and freshman Nida Hamilton await first-round winners from either Akron or Michigan State.

Competing as freshmen in 2009, Turvy won two matches in her debut at the Regionals while Abu Mushrefova and Wowchuk each won one. Chernyakova's best showing at the event came as a freshman in 2008 when she reached the quarterfinals in East Lansing, Mich.

8 a.m. -- Final round of singles qualifying (eight advance to main draw)
10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. -- Doubles practice and coaches meeting
2 p.m. -- Two rounds of doubles (48 teams to 16)
*Optional consolation if weather/time permits
Saturday, Oct. 23
8 a.m. -- Round of 16 doubles
9 a.m. -- Two rounds of main draw singles (48 players to 16)
