Loyola Lakefront Invite -- INDIVIDUAL Results
CHICAGO -- Chicago's usually-picturesque lakefront was anything but on Saturday, offering consistent winds of over 30 miles per hour and dropping blustering rain for the duration of the 38th annual Loyola Lakefront Invitational. Nevertheless, Northwestern placed six runners in the top 22 -- led once again by sophomore Audrey Huth -- to win the event with a meet-low 53 points.
The Wildcats have now come out on top as a team in all three of their meets thus far in 2010.
Leading the way for NU individually in the 5K race was sophomore Audrey Huth, who comfortably finished second overall -- with a six-second advantage over third place -- in a time of 17:42. Despite the strong winds and rain, Huth's time was just seven seconds off her season-best time of 17:35 set at the Illinois Intercollegiates.
NU's Sophie Ewald finished in fifth place overall with a time of 17:51 while freshman Michelle Moriset was third for the 'Cats in 12th overall (18:14). Northwestern's victorious team score was aided by the trio of Wildcats who finished in succession at 19th, 20th and 21st positions -- freshman Julia Buford (18:29), freshman Ann Powers (18:31) and junior Abby Tracy, who posted a cross country career-best 5K time of 18:31.
Junior Hallie Busta was NU's seventh scorer on the day, finishing in 33rd place in 18:41.
Northwestern, which also won the team crown at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in 2008, finished three points clear of McMaster (Canada) in the team standings.
NU is back in action on Friday, Oct. 15, at the Bradley Classic in Peoria, Ill.
