NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern seniors Sabel Moffett (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) of the volleyball team and Matt Eliason (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) of the men's soccer team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Moffett posted a career-best 14 blocks in NU's big win over No. 16 Minnesota Sunday, with six of her blocks coming in the fourth period alone to help the Wildcats to a three-way tie for first place in the Big Ten. She continues to establish herself as one of the program's all-time top blockers, moving into fourth in block assists (364) and sixth in total blocks (443) over the weekend. Moffett also ranks eighth all-time in solo blocks (79).
Eliason assisted on three of NU's five goals last week in helping the Wildcats to victories over local rival DePaul and 15th-ranked Ohio State. In Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Blue Demons, the senior forward helped give NU a 2-1 second-half lead with his assist on a goal by John Rogers before setting up Layth Masri for the game-winning score with just under six minutes remaining in regulation. In Sunday's 2-1 win over the Buckeyes, Eliason's long service set up Reed Losee for the first goal of the game and gave the 'Cats a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is sophomore Chris Jackman (Key Biscayne, Fla./Gulliver Prep). Jackman and other NU student-athletes visited St. Joan of Arc school for their Green Fair. The students learned about what materials can and cannot be recycled and other helpful reminders like turning the water off when brushing your teeth and unplugging electronic devices when not in use.
