CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Northwestern junior Andrew Nadhir (149) and sophomore John Schoen (197) each went 2-0 on Saturday but the Wildcats were eliminated from the prestigious NWCA National Duals event after two matches at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The 'Cats fell to sixth-ranked Central Michigan 28-12 to open the day before battling No. 17 Missouri to a 23-17 loss.

With his pair of victories, the 17th-ranked Nadhir improved his season record to 14-3 and remained unbeaten (8-0) in dual matches, matching his overall win total for all of last season. Schoen, meanwhile, ran his dual record to 7-1 and is now 9-5 on the year. His decision win at 197 against Missouri's 11th-ranked Brent Haynes gave Northwestern a one-point edge entering the heavyweight match, which NU was forced to forfeit due to injury.

NU's dual with Central Michigan started at the bottom of the lineup where freshman Levi Mele took on an experienced senior in 10th-ranked Matt Steintrager, who managed to eke out a 4-2 decision to put the Chippewas on the scoreboard first. Another top-10 CMU grappler, No. 9 Scotti Sentes, recorded a major decision victory over NU senior Eric Metzler at 133 to precede a hard-fought 4-0 decision by Central Michigan's Conor Beebe over Northwestern's Robert Joyce at 141.

Northwestern responded by winning the next two bouts, however, to cut its deficit to two at 9-7. Nadhir posted his fifth major decision win of the season by beating Justin McDermitt, 14-4, to earn four points for the 'Cats. At 157, freshman Kevin Bialka continued to grow into his role as NU's dual starter and notched a decisive 9-3 victory against Donnie Corby, moving to 6-7 on the year.

Central Michigan sophomore Eric Cubberly won a pivotal matchup at 165, narrowly edging NU's Robert Kellogg to keep the Chippewas in the driver's seat with a 12-7 lead. Following an NU forfeit at 174 pounds, junior Aaron Jones took on a former NCAA finalist in CMU's Mike Miller and gave Miller all he could handle. Trailing by two with time winding down in the third period, Jones took his shot and was in on a double-leg but could not finish the shot before the final seconds of the match ticked off the clock.

At 197, Schoen won in impressive fashion over CMU's Raylan Davis, attacking the Chippewa from the opening whistle. Schoen used a series of turns in the third period to build a large enough lead (20-4) to end the match and earn the tech fall win, his third bonus point win in his last four dual match outings.

#17 Missouri 23, Northwestern 17

Northwestern's second dual of the afternoon got underway at 125 pounds where Missouri forfeited, giving the 'Cats an early 6-0 advantage.

Metzler notched a quality win for the 'Cats at 133, defeating redshirt freshman Nathan McCormick 8-5 in an epic match that required an overtime and two tiebreaker periods to determine a winner. Metzler trailed 3-1 entering the third but took a 4-3 lead on an escape and takedown early in the final period. McCormick was able to take a 5-4 lead on a late reversal, however, but Metzler's riding time advantage gave him the tying point to force overtime. Metzler picked up a huge near-fall and three points in the first tiebreaker period and held McCormick scoreless in the second to secure a 9-0 lead for the Wildcats.

After NU suffered a loss at 141, Nadhir regained momentum for Northwestern by pinning Missouri's Brandon Wiest in the second period. Nadhir held a slight 4-3 lead when he was able to turn Wiest and lock up six points for the Wildcats as well as his 14th win of the year.

Missouri was able to pick up three points at 157 before NU's Kellogg took to the mat against Nick Marable, the nation's sixth-ranked 165-pounder. Marable was in control early, leading 5-1 courtesy of a pair of first-period takedowns. But Kellogg, starting in the down position in the third, scored a one-point escape before managing to bring down Marable to earn two points and cut his deficit to 5-4. Marable scored two on a reversal, however, and Kellogg was unable to find a second takedown in losing 7-5.

That proved to be a big win for the Tigers, who were spurred to capture the ensuing two bouts and claim a 17-15 lead.

The 'Cats' next win came at 197 pounds as Schoen held off Tiger redshirt freshman and 11th-ranked Brent Haynes in a 4-2 decision. Leading 2-0 in the second, Schoen was granted a point following a second stall warning against Haynes to go up 3-0. Haynes made things interesting with a takedown in the third period to pull within 3-2, but yet another stall call gave Schoen a 4-2 lead and helped the Wildcats take a one-point lead. The Tigers walked away with the victory, however, as NU surrendered a forfeit at heavyweight due to injury.
