Student-Athletes Participate in 151st Annual Commencement Festivities

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Student-athletes representing all 19 Northwestern varsity sports participated in the 151st annual commencement Friday evening (June 19) at Ryan Field. Convocations for all of the schools and colleges at Northwestern took place on Saturday, June 20 at various locations across campus.
Internationally renowned musician Wynton Marsalis, who received an honorary doctor of arts degree, addressed graduates, parents and guests Friday evening.
Northwestern had 104 student-athletes receive degrees during the weekend -- 95 received their undergraduate degree while nine more received their master's.Friday's event marked the final commencement for President Henry Bienen, who will retire Sept. 1 after nearly 15 years in the university's highest office. Bienen made a special appearance Friday afternoon at the football team's pre-commencement reception in Trienens Hall, congratulating the graduates and joining them in singing the fight song.
