EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat senior Keri Robison (Decatur, Ill./Keystone National) of the women's tennis team and freshman Trevor Stevens (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) of the baseball team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Robison was the only Wildcat to finish and win two singles matches in No. 1 NU's first- and second-round NCAA Tournament victories against Miami (Ohio) and Kentucky. Robison notched NU's clinching singles point against UK with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Whitney Spencer, marking her ninth straight singles victory. She and Maria Mosolova also won their 17th straight No. 2 doubles match and will compete in the NCAA doubles tournament later this month.
Stevens continued to perform well at the plate for Northwestern, racking up eight hits in five games last week to raise his team-leading total for the season to 51. In Saturday's doubleheader at Indiana, Stevens hit safely five times and now has 16 multi-hit games through his freshman campaign.
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is junior Ariel Baxterbeck (Menlo Park, Calif./Castilleja) of the volleyball team. Baxterback and other members of the athletic community hosted nearly 600 children from Sanborn Elementary on campus last Friday. The students, faculty and staff from Sanborn came to campus as part of the "No Excuses" program at their school. Their trip included a pep talk from football coach Pat Fitzgerald, a tour of the athletic facilities and lunch at Lakeside Field.
