Likhite Inks One More to NLI for 2009

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Head coach April Likhite announced a new addition to her incoming recruiting class for the 2009 fall season on Thursday. Allegra Mayer, a native of Palo Alto, Calif., and a four-year qualifier for the California State Cross Country Championship meet, has signed an NLI to compete for Northwestern and become the fourth member of this year's recruiting class.
"Allegra will be an outstanding addition to our program," Likhite said. "She has such a well-rounded demeanor about her that will be beneficial to her athletically and academically during her career at Northwestern."
Mayer competed for Gunn High School where she was named the team's MVP three times in the four years that she lettered in cross country. She also earned All-Central Coast Section honors three times and helped her team win the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League championship in 2007. Her career-best 5K cross country time of 18:52 came at the California state meet.
Mayer was a four-year letterwinner and two-year captain for Gunn's track team, receiving all-league recognition for the 3,200-meter race three times and twice for the 1,600-meter. As a junior, Mayer placed 15th in the 3,200 for the entire state of California, which combines all divisions for its state finals.
Mayer joins Angie Henry, Audrey Huth and Moira Ryan in NU's recruiting class of 2013.
