EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat sophomore Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) of the women's golf team and freshman Trevor Stevens (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) have been named the Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Lindenschmidt recorded the first top-10 finish of her career Sunday and she did so when it mattered most, shooting a 4-over 76 over the final 18 holes of the Big Ten Championships, wrapping up the 72-hole tournament with a 24-over 312 (80-78-78-76) and in sole possession of 10th place. She led Northwestern with four birdies over the weekend.
Stevens helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of wins last week, collecting 10 hits in 19 at-bats (.526). He picked up multiple hits in each contest, including collecting three apiece in a 13-3 win at Illinois State on Wednesday and a 10-6 victory at No. 23 Ohio State on Sunday. He also scored eight runs in the four contests, three in each of Northwestern's wins.
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is junior Courtney Plaster-Strange (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) of the field hockey team. Plaster-Strange and the entire field hockey team hosted a Brownie troop from Solomon Schechter Elementary School on Tuesday, April 21. The team conducted a mini-clinic with the girls to educate them on the basic skills and rules of field hockey, while also talking about healthy habits they use in their daily lives.
