LAWRENCE, Kan. -
Northwestern was unable to salvage its series finale against Kansas Sunday, falling to the Jayhawks 10-1 in the completion of a game suspended from Saturday night. Freshman Hamilton Wise collected two hits for the Wildcats.
NU (2-9) trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning when the game was suspended Saturday evening due to lightning. Kansas went on to tack on two more runs in the third once the game resumed Sunday and then added two more in the fourth to surge ahead 7-1.
The hosts would added one run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to account for the final margin.
Northwestern jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first, posting its lone tally. Kenneth Avila started the game by reaching second on an error. He moved up to third on an error and scored on an RBI groundout by Jake Goebbert.
Starter Joe Muraski took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing four runs and four hits while striking out three in two innings of work. Matt Havey pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, fanning two.
The Wildcats are slated to return to action Thursday when they travel to cross-town foe UIC to open a three-game series.
