EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern was recognized as an All-Academic Team honoree by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association this week. NU's team GPA of 3.33 ranked fifth out of 11 women's cross country squads in the Big Ten, which along with the Big East led all other Division I conferences in number of All-Academic teams (11).
Eight Wildcats earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition following a fall season in which NU improved on its finish at the NCAA Regional meet for the second straight year, placing 14th. Northwestern also captured a first-place finish at the 32-team Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Sept. 27 in its first meet victory since 2006.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.
