PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Sophomore Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) was tabbed a second-team All-Big Ten selection by the media and a third-team all-league pick by the coaches, the conference office announced today. Jaeschke becomes the first Wildcat to earn second-team honors since Megan Chawansky did it in the 1998-99 season.

Jaeschke, a Big Ten All-Freshman pick last year, can be found at or near the top of nearly all of Northwestern's statistical categories and in the upper echelon of several Big Ten individual rankings. She has led the Wildcats in scoring all season and has been among the Big Ten's top 10 scorers throughout the year. Jaeschke is currently averaging 13.4 ppg, good for fourth in the league and 8.3 rebounds per outing, which ranks first among all Wildcats and seventh in conference. Her career-best 34-point performance at Clemson on Dec. 4 is a single-game Big Ten high this season.

Jaeschke is second in the conference and first on the squad in minutes played, averaging 35.93 per game. The Wilmette, Ill., native is ranked third nationally with 3.21 blocks per outing, an average that is also tops in the Big Ten.

Aside from conference and national recognition, the sophomore has already made an impact at Northwestern. Jaeschke currently has 93 blocks, which places her atop the single-season blocks list in the Wildcat record books. Her nine-block performance against Texas Southern on Dec. 16 was a Big Ten season high and a Northwestern single-game high.

Jaeschke was one of 50 women's basketball student-athletes to be named to the Naismith Trophy early season watch list.

Wildcat senior Ellen Jaeschke (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) was recognized as Northwestern's Sportsmanship Award honoree.

Jaeschke and the Wildcats battle seventh-seeded Wisconsin at 11 a.m. CT Thursday in the first game of the 2009 Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind. The winner faces second-seeded Michigan State at 10:30 a.m. CT Friday at Conseco Fieldhouse.
