Carthage Last Chance Meet Complete Results

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern continued its spring track schedule last weekend, entering competitors in both the Carthage Last Chance meet at Carthage College as well as the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame. Freshman Sophie Ewald sprinted to a 17:24 finish in the 5,000-meter event in South Bend to take 13th place overall.

“This was another great weekend of competition for our entire team,” head coach April Likhite said. “Sophie has run several very impressive races in a row and is really coming into her own as a runner.”

At the Carthage Last Chance meet, junior Paulina Garcia claimed second place in the 5K event with a time of 18:40.12 while classmate Carla Wirtschafter was not far behind with a time of 20:41.37, taking fourth place.

“Paulina, Carla and our entire team have really taken advantage of these spring workouts and meets and used them as opportunities to make serious strides as runners,” Likhite said.

Northwestern is next in action at the Mike Poehlein Invitational at Purdue and the Ted Haydon Invitational at the University of Chicago on Saturday, April 4.
