EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat junior Kristin Cartwright (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) of the women's basketball team and freshman Joshua Graves (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) of the men's tennis team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Cartwright led the Wildcats to a 60-57 win against Michigan Thursday night with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. She also recorded three steals and hit all four free throw attempts, including two in the final minute with the 'Cats protecting a three-point lead. For the year, the junior is second on the team in both points (9.9) and rebounds (4.3) per game.
Graves notched a pair of crucial wins in NU's 4-3 win at Middle Tennessee State on Saturday. Graves began his day by teaming with Alex Sanborn at No. 2 doubles for an 8-3 win that helped the 'Cats clinch the doubles point. The match later came down to his No. 6 singles contest where he defeated Richard Cowden 6-4, 6-3, to help NU secure its best start to a season (6-0) since the 2000-01 campaign.
This week's Community Services Athlete of the Week is senior Todd Dockery (Atlanta, Ga./Riverwood) of the football team. Todd and other members of the football team helped District 65 launch its Jump Rope for Heart program at a local elementary school on Feb. 4. The players introduced the program to the students and even showed off their jump-roping skills. Todd and everyone involved were grateful to be part of the initiative in memory of Coach Randy Walker.
