Wildcats Sweep Through Blue Devils, Tar Heels at Duke Duals

DURHAM, N.C. -- Northwestern's weekend got off to a good start as the sixth-ranked Wildcats earned a pair of victories at the Duke Duals Saturday, improving to 27-7 on the year. The Wildcats defeated the host Blue Devils 16-11 before toppling North Carolina 20-7 at Card Gymnasium.
The 'Cats opened up the day with the win over Duke, highlighted by a 7-2 effort from the epee team. Northwestern improved to 2-0 on the year against the Blue Devils, taking a 17-10 decision at the Penn Invitational on Jan. 10. The Wildcats then met up with the Tar Heels for the third time this season, remaining unbeaten against UNC with a 20-7 victory, including perfect 9-0 marks from both the epee and foil teams. NU also defeated North Carolina 18-9 at the Penn Invitational and 15-12 at the NU Duals last weekend.
The Wildcats now make a quick trip to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Notre Dame Duals Sunday, Feb. 8, in the final dual competition of the regular season. Northwestern will go head-to-head with seven schools, beginning with Florida at 7 a.m. Central Sunday morning.
