Margaret Bradley Invitational Results
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern competed unattached in the Margaret Bradley Invitational at the University of Chicago this weekend, the first in a series of spring track events on the Wildcats' offseason schedule. In the 3,000-meter race, NU freshman Sophie Ewald outran the entire field to place first with a time of 10:17.24.
Ewald is coming off a freshman campaign in which she ran in seven events for Northwestern and placed first on the team in four of them. She notched her season-best 6K time of 22:16.35 at the Midwest Regional Championship in Stillwater, Okla., while her best 5K time of 18:04 came in the Adidas Invitational at Notre Dame, where she took second place overall.
Ewald bested the second-place finisher at the Margaret Bradley Invite by an incredible 21 seconds.
Four other 'Cats finished in the mix in the 3,000-meter race, including two juniors in Paulina Garcia (10:46.50) and Carla Wirtschafter (12:06.02) and two first-years in Molly Waterhouse (11:07.26) and Rose Plomin (11:09.40).
Northwestern's spring schedule continues on Friday, March 6, at the Carthage Last Chance meet in Kenosha, Wis. Head coach April Likhite will also bring her squad to events hosted by Purdue, Notre Dame, Marquette and North Central as well as the Chicagoland Championships in Naperville, Ill., on April 10-11.
