EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach April Likhite has announced the addition of three incoming freshman who will run cross country for NU beginning in the fall of 2009. Angie Henry (Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins), Audrey Huth (Shelby, Mich./Utica) and Moira Ryan (Washington, D.C./Georgetown Visitation Prep) are set to join a talented returning squad that regularly saw four freshmen place among the team's top-5 during the 2008 campaign.

“I am very pleased to have these three exceptional young women join our Northwestern family next fall,” Likhite said. “They are excited not only about the long-term direction our team is headed in but also for the challenge of immediately contributing to our program.”

Henry was a six-year varsity letterwinner in cross country and track at Hopkins High School. She earned all-conference recognition for cross country all six years she competed while garnering all-section honors three times. Henry was a member of the school-record-holding 4x1600-meter relay team in track and has run a personal-best time of 19:18 in the 5K distance.

Huth is a four-time all-state honoree in Michigan and placed second in the state as a junior in 2007. In November 2008, Huth placed fourth at the MidEast Cross Country Championships, which pits the best high school senior runners from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and other area states against one another. Three times she won her county championship and was named conference MVP.

Ryan is the 2008-09 Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year for Washington, D.C. and was named the district's runner of the year three times by the Washington Post in her career. In 2006, Ryan won the Maryland/D.C. Private Schools championship and was the 2007 outdoor track champion in the 3200-meter event. She was a three-time captain of her cross country and track squads and has posted a personal-best 5K cross country time of 19:02.

“Our goal is to continue to bring in individuals of high character who will not only excel for us on the cross country course, but who will strive to better themselves and our program during their careers as a Northwestern student-athlete,” Likhite said. “I have no doubt that these three individuals will accomplish that.”
