EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) was named co-Big Ten Player of the Week by the conference office today after spearheading two impressive victories for the Wildcats this past week. The 6-5 center averaged 17.0 ppg and 12.0 rpg and recorded 14 blocks as the 'Cats improved their record to a perfect 3-0; the program's best start since the 2006-07 campaign. It is the second time in her career Jaeschke has garnered the honor.
Jaeschke was one block away from a triple-double in NU's 68-37 victory over SIU-Edwardsville Friday evening as she recorded 16 points, 15 rebounds and tied a career-and all-time Wildcat best with nine blocks. She also contributed a game-high five assists.
In Sunday's win against the IPFW, Jaeschke once again posted terrific numbers across the board, leading all scorers with 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists and five blocks. This past week, she was also named to the Preseason Naismith Trophy Watchlist. The criteria for the award is based on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2009-10 college basketball season.
Jaeschke was last named Player of the Week on Jan. 6, 2009 when she shared the accolade with Purdue's Danielle Campbell. This time she is also honored with Ohio State's Samantha Prahalis.
