Big Ten Championships Individual & Team Results

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. -- Six of Northwestern's top seven finishers at the 2009 Big Ten Championships Sunday at Penn State were underclassmen, led by freshman Audrey Huth and sophomore Hallie Busta. Huth placed 50th overall in 22:11 while Busta took 67th overall by crossing in 22:40.

Huth's 50th-place crossing was the highest individual finish by a Northwestern runner since Celia Franklin placed 44th in 2005.

NU senior Paulina Garcia placed third among Wildcats in a time of 22:51 while freshman Allegra Mayer (22:58) and sophomore Rachel Edwards (23:07) rounded out Northwestern's top five. Edwards and Garcia each improved their time at the Big Ten Championships by nearly a minute over last year's times.

Host Penn State, ranked No. 18 in the USTFCCCA polls, captured the team championship on its home course with a meet-low 71 points while Nittany Lion senior Brittany Franek took the individual title. Northwestern placed 11th as a team with 326 points.

The Wildcats return to competition in two weeks for the NCAA Regional Championships in Springfield, Mo.
