SHENZHEN, China -- Northwestern sophomore Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) is in second place after 54 holes at the inaugural Asian Amateur Championship, shooting a third-round low 6-under 66 Saturday to pull within two shots of the lead.

Chun is 8-under for the tournament, trailing fellow Korean Han Chang-won's three-day total of 10-under par. The tournament offers an invitation to the 2010 Masters Tournament as a reward for the champion, with both the winner and the runner(s)-up earning places in International Final Qualifying for The Open Championship being played next year at St Andrews.

Chun shot into contention Saturday with three front-nine birdies and an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole en route to an outbound 32. Chun shot a 2-over 74 on the first day of the Championship before recovering with a 4-under 68 on Friday.

"I have played better and better as the week has gone on and that has shown in my scores," Chun said. "There are plenty of birdies available on this course if you are playing well and I am going to be aggressive out there tomorrow."

Chun is wearing his Northwestern gear at the tournament and his caddy has Chun's Northwestern bag. He is the lone Korean in the field who is not a member of the Korean national team.
