EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat juniors Quentin Davie (St. Louis, Mo./Cardinal Ritter) of the football team and Sabel Moffett (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) of the volleyball team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Davie racked up a career-best three sacks and seven total tackles (five solo) in Northwestern's 16-6 victory over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday. He also forced two Miami fumbles and was subsequently named the National Linebacker of the Week by the College Footbal Performance Awards (CFPA). The junior is leading NU in tackles per game with 7.7, good for 13th in the Big Ten.
Moffett led Northwestern to back-to-back five-set victories over Big Ten opponents Purdue and Indiana this weekend, amassing 39 kills on 64 attempts and 15 blocks in the two matches. Against the Hoosiers, Moffett knocked down a career-best 24 kills--including nine in keying NU's come-from-behind win in the second set--and added seven blocks.
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is senior Andrew Brewer (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) of the football team. Brewer and other members of the football team visited Mather Pavilion on Oct. 8. The players hosted a football-themed social hour for the residents of the senior community. NU's student-athletes and the residents shared stories, danced and spent a wonderful afternoon together.
