EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern takes to Lakeside Field for the first time in 2008 Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. when it hosts Miami (Ohio). NU, hungry for a win after losses at Northeastern and Boston University to start the season, also plays host to Sacred Heart Sunday at noon. SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Miami (Ohio) opened its season with back-to-back wins in the Miami Kick-Off Classic in Oxford, Ohio. Freshman goalkeeper Abbey Huck earned a shutout in her first ever collegiate game, a 5-0 win against Davidson, making four saves in the process. Seniors Courtney Fretz and Teja Kammler gave the RedHawks a 2-0 lead just three minutes in the game, each scoring a goal and assisting on the other. MU had another impressive performance against Richmond, scoring six goals in a 25-minute second-half span to post a 6-1 victory. In both games, Miami had five different players find the back of the cage.
A year ago, MU finished 10-11 overall but had a 6-4 record in conference play. Senior back Danielle Gaynor (six goals, four assists) is the team's leading returning scorer from 2007.
EIGHT IS ENOUGH
Friday's contest is the eighth all-time meeting between Northwestern and Miami (Ohio) with the most recent matchup coming in 2006. That year, NU traveled to Oxford to open its regular season schedule but fell to the RedHawks, 3-1. The loss is the only blemish in the 'Cats' history against Miami as NU leads the all-time series 6-1.
NICE TO MEET YOU
On September 1, NU welcomed new volunteer assistant coach April Fronzoni to the Wildcat family. Fronzoni, a 2004 graduate of Michigan, was a four-year letterwinner for the Wolverines and won Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year honors in both 2002 and 2003. Since 1998, she has also earned 60 caps playing for the US National Team and served as an alternate for the 2008 squad that competed in the Beijing Olympics.
