EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Jenny Dunn (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Louisville) of women's soccer has been named the Wildcats' Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week for the first week of the 2008-09 NU athletic season.
In the Wildcats' wild first game of the year Friday at Lakeside Field, Dunn's tally in the 87th minute gave NU a 4-3 win over Nebraska. Leigh Jakes set up the play with a pass to Jeanette Lorme. After Lorme was denied, a rebound came right to Dunn who put home the third game-winning goal of her career. Dunn also paced NU in the offensive slugfest with four shots, two on goal.
Northwestern's male fall sports get underway next week.
In a new feature for 2008-09, Hilton Garden Inn also is sponsoring a weekly Community Service Athlete of the Week. The first honor goes to sophomore Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) of women's basketball. Amy has been volunteering in the marketing department this summer, implementing such projects as North Shore Community Day at Ryan Field.
Amy contacted mayors from the North Shore Communities to be the honorary captains at the football home opener, as well as provided community members the chance to form the tunnel for the football team to run through before the game against Syracuse. The special moments Amy has helped create for these fans are traditions that will carry on for years.
